Following a thorough questionnaire and interview process, the Santa Monica Forward steering committee voted to support the four Santa Monica City Council incumbents running for reelection.
Mayor Tony Vazquez, Mayor Pro Tempore Ted Winterer, CouncilmemberTerry O’Day, and Councilmember Gleam Davis have worked together collegially over the last four years on some very controversial issues and have demonstrated the leadership we need for good government.
Santa Monica Forward, which is also leading the No on Measure LV campaign, also voted to support Measure V, the Santa Monica College bond measure that, if approved, will provide vital funding for the modernization and maintenance of the existing campus.
In our endorsement process, Santa Monica Forward reached out to all of the potential candidates running for office. Each candidate was given an opportunity to respond to our questionnaire. Those who responded to the questionnaire were then invited for an interview with members of the Santa Monica Forward steering committee to further discuss their positions, ideas, and visions for the future of Santa Monica.
Based on the candidates’ responses and, where applicable, the potential candidates’ record, the Santa Monica Forward steering committee voted to support all four incumbents.
While we may not always agree with every decision made by the Council, we believe that our current council members have and will continue to do excellent work in shaping the future of our city, as well as encouraging civil, constructive, and fact-based dialogue around the issues we care so much about.
The Santa Monica Forward steering committee also voted to support Measure V, the bond measure that will support modernization of the facilities on the Santa Monica College campus. We are proud to support affordable education that is accessible not only to our immediate community but also to the larger region of which we are a part.
